New Speeds Signs Installed

New electronic speed signs will allow us to capture traffic data.

Published: 27 May 2026

New moveable vehicle activated speed signs (MVAS) were installed on the A162 on 22 May 2026 replacing the existing signs. These new signs will allow us to capture volume and average speed data from traffic passing through the village.

The original signs did not capture data, one had ceased working and the company that had installed them is no longer trading.

We had originally planned to install one of the signs on Common Road to capture data on  traffic coming from Church Fenton however several things changed since we placed the order for the signs:

  • North Yorkshire are considering a 20mph speed limit through the village, so we need to wait for consultation to complete before deciding where a sign could sensibly be located.
  • North Yorkshire no longer support the installation of signs on an existing lamp post so we would need to install a post and power.
  • Common Road will be closed from July 2026 to June 2027.
